Walking

I must confess that, as a family, we have never ventured out for walks of any serious proportion. Having said that, I keep hearing from our guests – especially those who have stayed off season – just how good the walking is. With that in mind, I thought I’d do a bit of research on the subject.

The scenery has been described as “Scotland without the rain”. It can be quite rugged, mountainous – and certainly challenging for the more experienced walker. But it’s not all semi-mountaineering! I’ve seen lots of routes and descriptions of walks that are suitable for the less experienced or for those whose fitness is less than perfect.

The upshot is that the scenery is spectacular, with inland lakes, secret coves, lofty summits, and majestic sea views among the many pleasures to look forward to.

The following website will give you a place to start should you want to go for an organised tour:

There is also no end of literature on the subject, and a quick search on the internet should reveal plenty of books and maps on the subject.
